Governor Andrei Chibis visited the modernized crab fishing vessel Murman-2 of the Antey Sever company
A modern crab catcher has joined the northern fishing fleet: today, the governor of the Murmansk region Andrei Chibis was presented with the modernized vessel "Murman-2", which will set off for fishing in the Barents Sea this month. The presentation was conducted by the general director of the company "Antey Sever" Yuri Bakalyar.
The Antey Sever company is a resident of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. A special preferential regime allows investing in the development of the Murmansk region and creating new jobs.
"We are happy to have such a partner. Antey has been a resident since 2020, and we see that the preferences are bearing fruit. Another vessel has been transformed from a supply vessel into a modern crab fishing vessel, it has excellent equipment. During its work in the Murmansk region, the company has created 600 new jobs and has already paid 1.8 billion rubles in taxes to the regional budget. We have large-scale joint plans to modernize and create a modern coastal processing production facility on the territory of the fishing port. This includes jobs for the guys we train at the I.I. Mesyatsev College, at Moscow State Technical University, competitive salaries, as well as fresh produce," Andrey Chibis emphasized.
The head of the region also noted that students from colleges and universities in the region will undergo practical training on the new vessels.
"We agreed with colleagues that they will actively patronize our MMRK named after I.I. Mesyatsev, take the guys for practice and motivate them to continue their career. The college needs technical re-equipment. Today we saw how this vessel is controlled, what wonderful equipment is here. It is necessary that in colleges the guys are taught to work on such equipment, on modern vessels. Classics are very important, but modern technology also needs to be mastered. And together we will gradually do everything so that the college meets the needs of companies working in the northern basin, trains the necessary specialists," commented Andrey Chibis.
Fleet renewal and capacity expansion are among the priority tasks of the Antey Group of Companies, which includes Antey Sever. Today, the fleet of the group of companies includes 51 vessels of various types, 21 of which operate in the North. The annual crab production in the Barents Sea in 2022 exceeded 11 thousand tons of crab. The company is implementing a project to modernize and re-equip vessels for crab fishing and the production of boiled and frozen products. Murman-2 is the company's second vessel; the first modernized crab catcher has already been operating in the Barents Sea since 2021.
The total length of the crab boat is 57.7 meters, the width is 14 meters, the full speed is 12.5 knots, the total volume of two refrigerated holds is 670 m3. In addition, the Murman-2 has excellent seaworthiness: the installed rudder propellers and thrusters increase the maneuverability and controllability of the vessel in any weather conditions. The main advantage of the vessel is a modern factory for the production of boiled and frozen products with a capacity of up to 30 tons per day.
"Modern automatic equipment for cutting crab reduces the time spent on processing raw material and minimizes the work of sailors, which allows us to significantly increase the daily output. The Murman-2 ship's factory is equipped with specialized tunnel-type air freezing chambers. These technologies allow us to preserve nutrients: protein, vitamins and essential fatty acids," said Yuriy Bakalyar, CEO of Antey Sever.
The crab boat provides comfortable conditions for the crew to work and rest: two- and three-bed cabins, modern equipment, spacious work places. There are also additional cabins for cadets of maritime universities and colleges who will undergo practical training on the ship.
Let us recall that the Antey Group of Companies is one of the largest Russian holdings for the extraction and processing of fish and crab with a 30-year history of fishing. Having started work in the Far East, Antey expanded the regions of its presence, becoming the only company in Russia that carries out the extraction and processing of crabs in the Far Eastern and Northern fishery basins of the country.
"Antey Group of Companies is one of the leaders in the crab fishing industry in Russia. As of 2023, the company successfully develops about 18% of Russian quotas for crab fishing. Production capacity is about 1,200 tons per month. As part of the first stage of investment quotas, Antey supported Far Eastern shipbuilders and placed orders at the Nakhodka Ship Repair Plant, effectively investing more than 13.5 billion rubles in the economy of the Far East. In addition, given the US ban on the import of Russian crab, Antey is the first organization that has managed to reorient the export of crab caught in the Northern Fisheries Basin to the Asia-Pacific countries. The crab is delivered alive to recipients via the Northern Sea Route. The modernization of the Murman-2 ship outside the investment quota program only underlines the confidence in the Antey company, which has taken on the obligation to renew the fleet,” said Dmitry Klyuneev, Director of the Department for the Development of Fisheries Activities of the Far East Fisheries Agency.
Within the framework of the investment quota program, 8 more modern crab catchers are being built in Primorsky Krai by order of the Antey Group of Companies, which will operate, among other things, in the Barents Sea. The first three vessels, the Captain, the Captain Khazan and the Dmitry Konoplev, were launched in the fall of 2022.
