Murmansk Region Governor Andrey Chibis held a working meeting with representatives of the Novaport holding company on the progress of the project to build a new domestic air terminal complex at Murmansk Airport.

"The project to build a new air terminal complex is in the active implementation stage. This is a major initiative that has received government support and comprehensive financing. We all expect construction to be completed this year. The main advantages of the project are that the new terminal will increase capacity and will serve 3 million passengers per year against the current 1.4 million. But the most important thing is modern infrastructure - creating a comfortable environment for passengers," said Governor Andrey Chibis.

The meeting reviewed the current status of the first stage of construction, which is being carried out with the support of the regional government. The initial plan called for completion of the work in September of this year, but the deadlines were adjusted due to the complexity of technological processes, including the installation of airfield equipment and large-scale excavation work.

"We planned to complete construction ahead of schedule in September, but for objective reasons this did not happen. Therefore, we will complete the work, as planned under the general contract, on November 15. We have inspected the progress of construction and see that this deadline will be met and the residents of the region will finally receive a modern infrastructure facility,” said Evgeny Yankilevich, CEO of Novaport Holding LLC.

The meeting participants also discussed preparations for the implementation of the second stage of the project: design documentation is currently being developed, with completion expected in 2026. The area of the new terminal will exceed 14 thousand square meters, which will ensure high-quality service for the growing passenger flow.

After both stages are put into operation, the airport complex will include two modern terminals, as well as a reconstructed building of the existing terminal for international transportation.
