Governor Andrey Chibis and Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov discussed the creation of a world-class campus in Murmansk
A working meeting between Murmansk Region Governor Andrey Chibis and Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov took place in Moscow. The main topic of the talks was the implementation of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s order to create a modern world-class campus in our region.
“As our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin noted, in the coming decades Russia will be expanding with the Arctic and northern territories. And I am confident that thanks to the support of the head of state, the federal government, and the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, we will create an advanced world-class campus based on the Murmansk Arctic University. Let me remind you that such an order was issued following the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum,” Andrey Chibis emphasized.
Thus, a world-class campus is one of the key facilities included in the master plans of the supporting agglomerations. The project envisages the construction of facilities with a total area of at least 49 thousand square meters. Over 14 billion rubles have been allocated from the federal budget for these purposes, which will make it possible to build three new facilities: an educational and laboratory building with an area of 15 thousand square meters, a research and development center with an area of 15 thousand square meters, and a research and development center with an area of 15 thousand square meters. m, a scientific and educational center of 10 thousand square meters and a student hotel for 1,200 people with an area of 24 thousand square meters.
It is planned to build a sports and fitness complex and a Coastal training and exercise center, which has already been installed, using funds from the regional budget and extra-budgetary sources. The total investment in this part of the project will be about 2.5 billion rubles. In addition, 300 million rubles were received from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia for the creation of the Arctic Center for Marine Engineering Development.
“Our main mission is to train personnel and create technologies for the development of our Russian Arctic. The creation of the campus is aimed at ensuring Russia's leadership in the Arctic zone, ensuring its sovereignty, developing the strategic resource base, the Northern Sea Route, and improving the quality of life of northerners. I am confident that together we will be able to create a unique educational cluster for training personnel needed by the economy of the Arctic regions and the entire country,” Andrey Chibis emphasized.
Let us recall that the construction of a world-class campus for Murmansk Arctic University is one of the priority projects for the development of the Murmansk Region, which is being implemented within the framework of the national project "Youth and Children". The work is planned in two stages: in 2025-2027, the territory will be prepared and designed, and in 2027-2030, construction and installation work and equipment will be carried out. The campus will become the basis for training specialists in three key areas: "Northern Sea Route", "Mineral Resources of the Arctic", "Arctic Bioresources and Biotechnology".
Additionally, during the meeting, the parties agreed to allocate funds for the major repairs of the Murmansk Marine Fishing College named after Mesyatsev. Plans for the repair and modernization of the laboratory buildings of the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences were also discussed. The head of the region noted that this issue will be worked out in detail in the near future.
