The Murmansk Bulk Terminal (part of the Port Alliance Group) handled 1.82 million tons of cargo in the first five months of 2026, an 18% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth was driven by increased transshipment of mineral fertilizers on the Arctic route.

From January to May 2026, mineral fertilizers, including potash, accounted for the largest share of MBT's cargo turnover, at 1.4 million tons, almost twice as much as the same period last year. The volume of apatite concentrate processed reached 384,700 tons.

The increase in transshipment is the result of consistent terminal modernization and the development of logistics solutions within Port Alliance. Since 2024, MBT has been implementing a program to technically upgrade its mineral fertilizer complex. During this time, the railcar unloading station has been optimized: eight new, larger-capacity receiving bins have been commissioned. This has reduced the time it takes to unload a group of railcars from 45 to 25 minutes and increased daily throughput. Conveyor lines have also been upgraded, increasing the ship loading speed to 1,500 tons per hour.

"The Port of Murmansk is a key gateway for Russian products to enter international markets, and these results demonstrate that the infrastructure development of companies operating in the Kola Arctic is moving in the right direction. Modernizing terminals, increasing throughput capacity, and developing new cargo types will strengthen the country's logistics independence and enhance the position of Arctic producers abroad," noted Svetlana Panfilova, Deputy Governor and Minister of Arctic Development and Economy of the Murmansk Region.

Improvements to the process line allowed MBT to launch regular transshipment of a new type of cargo—potash fertilizers—for foreign buyers, who had previously focused on ports in the Baltic Basin, at the beginning of the year.

Expanding the range of cargo is a key element of Port Alliance's strategy to adapt the MBT to new logistics realities and strengthen its position in the mineral fertilizer market.
