Today, a roundtable discussion at the Federation Council discussed the importance of developing the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor in the context of increasing global tensions, with traditional sea routes becoming difficult to access.

The Port of Murmansk is the only ice-free port in the Arctic and a key multimodal hub for the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor. It accommodates vessels of all sizes and has direct access to the ocean, eliminating dependence on third countries—a strategic advantage.

To fully utilize this potential, three things are essential: - increasing the capacity of the Murmansk Transit
Port (expanding rail approaches to the port so that capacity does not constrain the growth of cargo traffic);  - developing shipbuilding and ship repair (the construction of a new shipyard in Murmansk will have a multiplier effect on all Arctic logistics); - flexible railway tariffs (a small discount on shipments to Murmansk will attract even more private investors: additional cargo will flow to us now, and port infrastructure will develop even more actively).

For the region, this means new jobs, orders for local businesses, and economic growth in the Arctic.
