The head of the region, Andrey Chibis, noted that 2023 was a time of breakthrough events in the development of the Northern Sea Route:
- The most important stage of the implementation of the Murmansk transport hub has been completed, thanks to which cargo turnover will increase to 110 million tons per year.
- In the summer, President Vladimir Putin personally launched the shipment of the first LNG platform from the Central Shipbuilding and Marine Complex.  
- An agreement was signed with Rusat Cargo to create a new container terminal on the western shore of the Kola Bay.

The Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, Alexey Chekunkov, emphasized that the region has a special mission in the Russian Arctic: “ Here we are implementing world-class projects, the Northern Sea Route begins here. We will continue to invest all our efforts to ensure that the Murmansk Region continues to be the flagship of the Arctic development .”
